Areas of Practice

Whether your divorce is straightforward, high-asset, or highly contested, Morfitt Family Law provides the legal guidance and advocacy you need. We work to protect your rights, prioritize your future, and help you navigate every step of the process — from negotiation and mediation to courtroom litigation.

Divorce

Committed Intimate Relationships (CIR)

Washington law recognizes property and financial rights for long-term, committed relationships outside of marriage. If you're facing separation from a CIR, we can help you navigate complex property division and protect your interests.

Military Divorce

Military divorces bring unique legal and logistical challenges. As a former United States Air Force attorney, Kelsey Morfitt understands the complexities of military life and is prepared to help service members and their families navigate divorce and retirement orders with confidence.

Relocation with children after divorce or separation can affect parenting time. Whether you need to move or oppose a move, we provide experienced legal representation, assistance with lengthy paperwork, and creative solutions to protect your relationship with your children through the uncertainty of a move.

Dividing property, assets, and debt during divorce can be stressful and complicated. We work for you to help you achieve a sustainable, fair and equitable division — whether through settlement or litigation.

Child Support

Child support should be clear, fair, and consistent. We help clients understand Washington's guidelines, calculate support obligations, and advocate for arrangements that reflect your family's true needs.

Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDRO)

A QDRO is often required to divide retirement benefits after divorce. We work with clients to properly draft, file, and process QDROs to avoid taxes with retirement transfers.

Spousal support can be one of the most contested parts of divorce. Whether you are seeking support or defending against an unfair request, we provide honest, strategic guidance to ensure a fair outcome that reflects your unique situation.

Spousal Support (Alimony)

Dividing military pensions and benefits requires detailed knowledge of federal and state law. We have experience with Military Retirement Orders (reserve and active duty) and can protect your financial future, ensuring all military-specific rules are properly addressed.

Your children come first. We help parents create fair, practical parenting plans that protect your relationship with your child while providing stability. Whether custody is agreed upon or disputed, we work to achieve outcomes in your child's best interests.

Parenting Plans / Custody

Life changes — and sometimes your parenting plan, custody order, or support agreement needs to change, too. We assist clients in seeking or responding to modifications when there is a substantial change in circumstances.

Parenting Plan Modifications

When a child needs a safe, stable environment outside of their parents' care, we help relatives or trusted adults pursue legal guardianship. We guide families through this sensitive process with care and clarity. Let us take on the paperwork burden and court appearances for you so you can spend your time caring for the child you love.

Minor Guardianships

State courts may require parents to contribute to college or vocational education expenses after the initial child support obligation ends. Morfitt Family Law can help you understand your rights and obligations, and advocate for a fair, realistic education support plan that helps your child achieve their goals while not sacrificing yours.

Adoptions

Bringing a child into your family is a joyful, life-changing event — but the legal process can be overwhelming. We guide you through every step, ensuring your adoption is handled correctly and with care, so you can focus on your growing family.

If you are experiencing harassment, abuse, or threats, we can help you obtain the legal protection you need. Morfitt Family Law provides compassionate, effective support for filing or defending against protection orders.

Restraining Orders

We assist clients with obtaining restraining orders & defending against them in your Dissolution (Divorce) or Parenting Plan case. Restraining Orders can serve as as no-contact order or other remedy instead of a Civil Protection Order (CPO) or Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO).

If you or your children are facing abuse or threats, legal protection is critical. We act quickly to obtain protection orders and take legal action to keep you safe. You can rely on our team for compassionate, confidential support in difficult times. We are trauma-informed and can help you start a path of healing.

We also understand that some individuals seek protection orders to gain an advantage in the legal process or unfairly take your kids away. At Morfitt Family Law, we value honesty and will fight to reveal the truth and restore the relationship between you and your loved ones.

Mediation is often the fastest, most cost-effective way to resolve family law disputes outside of court. Our team will fully prepare your case materials in advance, and your attorney will attend private mediation with you. Private mediation, where both parties usually split the mediator’s cost 50/50 and cover their own attorney fees, has the highest success rate for reaching full settlement and avoiding trial. Public mediation is also an option, and we’ll guide you through whichever process is right for your case.

If settlement isn’t possible, we are fully prepared to take your case to trial. Our team has the courtroom experience needed to advocate for your rights, protect your interests, and present a strong case on your behalf. You can trust us to fight for you when it matters most.
